Second through Fourth Grade

During this three year period, students continue to learn new CS skills and hone existing skills through challenge-based activities. In addition, they have opportunities to bring their skills to bear by creating meaningful tech-based projects.

Second Grade

Once per month with math plus classroom & media projects

Students are introduced to event-driven logic and storyboarding while continuing to explore pattern recognition, loops, debugging and conditions (if/then).

Platforms: Scratch Jr., Code.org, CS Unplugged, Dot & Dash

Projects:
  • CS in Math
  • Pocahontas & Powhatan Project (history)
  • Animal classification (science)

Third Grade

Once per month with math plus classroom & media projects

Students are introduced to electronic components, circuits, syntax and procedures and continue to explore event-drive logic, storyboarding and conditions (if/then).

Platforms:  Scratch Jr., Scratch 3.0, LightBot, BitsBox (JavaScript), Code.org, CS Unplugged, MakeyMakey, Hummingbird Robotics

Students are introduced to boolean logic and continue to explore event-drive logic, storyboarding, circuits, syntax and procedures.
